Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or immaterial reality; an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of their being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation, are intended to develop an individual's inner life; such practices often lead to an experience of connectedness with a larger reality, yielding a more comprehensive self; with other individuals or the human community; with nature or the cosmos; or with the divine realm. Spirituality is often experienced as a source of inspiration or orientation in life. It can encompass belief in immaterial realities or experiences of the immanent or transcendent nature of the world.

How many atheists/agnostics can admit that religion/spirituality does do good in the world?
Q. That religion/spirituality isn't all bad and evil? I'm an atheist and I can still see the value and importance that religion/spirituality play in the world. And the many good things that come out of religion/spirituality. This question isn't just exclusive to Christianity, Islam, or Judaism; but rather any and all forms of religion/spirituality.

A. Now that is a brave and sensible statement. It appears that you are not of the "all or nothing" philosophy based on pride and principle.I admire that in anyone who admits to what is as clear as day !!! God bless,(and a gold star) Catholic.

What is the difference between Religion & Spirituality?
Q. I think Spirituality is believing the Universe is alive. & Religion is believing it expects something of you. What do you think?

A. That is not a bad interpretation at all. I like it. I think by it being alive one an intelligent human being can derive meaning from all of it. So that we can derive beauty or inspiration from all things both both nonhuman beings and nonliving things. Even when man thinks only he can do those things with his mind and say those thoughts cannot exist. It is an untruth. It is not recognizing the order and words of wisdom that is there if men but open up their spiritual eyes to see it. Scientifically there is no problem at all seeing the world spiritually. For example men have derived meaning and clarity of understanding of the universe. By observing nature and seeing laws that profoundly impact and govern the existence and sustain… [cont.]

How do you practice your spirituality? What is necessary everyday? ?
Q. For me, as a Christian, I try to read my bible, but usually I pray everyday. I often wonder if it is enough. I have sometimes felt that maybe I should be a nun, or a missionary, like I have to dedicate my whole life to it to be good enough. I know that sort of contradicts the whole idea of God having grace on me through Jesus dying though. I don't know. I'm not looking for advice, I just want to know, how do other people feel about their own spirituality. What is required of us?

A. Every day, I try to make sure I "walk my talk" and act in accordance with the things I believe. The most important spiritual thing for me is to put my beliefs into action. I pray whenever I feel moved to and I pray for all sorts of reasons, even just a quick "thanks for the great sunset." I don't force it, I do what I feel, and there are times when I go without praying. I see many people refreshed and renewed by some sort of daily observance or meditation and I sort of envy that, but it just doesn't fit who I am. I don't know how to answer your last question, it's a very profound one. Edited to add: I observe the solstices and equinoxes too in my own way, and while I believe in God I don't feel that He minds my acknowleging the… [cont.]

Spirituality concerns itself with matters of the spirit, a concept closely tied to religious belief and faith, a transcendent reality, or one or more deities. Spiritual matters are thus those matters regarding humankind's ultimate nature and meaning, not only as material biological organisms, but as beings with a unique relationship to that which is perceived to be Reality beyond the bodily senses, time and the material world.
