GermanNounMeditation f. (plural: Meditationen) Category: German nounsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Meditation is a mental discipline not only but is also the way to know all things that are questions that are big such as what happens after death, who am i ect. by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. It is recognized as a component of many religions, and has been practiced since antiquity. It is also practiced outside religious traditions. Different meditative disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual and/or psychophysical practices which may emphasize different goals—from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or simply a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind. The word meditation originally comes from the Indo-European root med-, meaning "to measure." From the root med- are also derived the English words mete, medicine, modest, and moderate. It entered English as meditation through the Latin meditatio, which originally indicated every type of physical or intellectual exercise, then later evolved into the more specific meaning "contemplation." Eastern meditation techniques have been adapted and increasingly practiced in Western culture. From Wikipedia under the

I used to do it in a zen center, but I can't really afford to drive back and forth to a zen center. Can I just sit zazen on my couch or what? I have a Buddha and incense, should I make an alter or what? If you are going to say something involving how I should go to jesus or something, please just don't answer. That's what most practitioners do - I've done daily practice of Zen in just this way for 20 years. Of course, occasionally it's good to visit your local Zen center to have an interview with a teacher or to participate in a retreat. These experiences will deepen your practice in important ways. But your daily practice doesn't require this. All you need for daily practice is a place to sit. Since your home probably has a floor, you can sit on the floor. Just find a stable cushion to sit on and you're good to go. Once you're sitting, just follow your breath or perform any other mind practice that you've been taught. I like to sit in front of a small altar, although this is not required.… [cont.] Answered by P'ang - Tue Feb 24 10:23:15 2009 In Meditation One, what reasons does Descartes give for doubting everything? Q. I am aware that meditation is the practice of paying attention and increasing awareness; sometimes called mindfulness. How does it work? Asked by Ben - Thu Jul 10 18:57:04 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. When you meditate, your brain becomes more ordered and coherent in ways that can be measured using EEGs, MRIs and PET scans. Your mind quiets down, allowing you to experience a deep sense of peace and well-being. When you live mindfully, you enjoy life more fully and perform at a higher level, with less stress. You can apply the practice of mindfulness to everything you do. Just focus on what you are doing. That's an exercise for the brain.
