It is often construed to be a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs. It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal disfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. In humans, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. In this broader sense, it sometimes includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections. Isolated symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function, while in other contexts and for other purposes these may be considered distinguishable categories. A diseased body is quite often not only because of some dysfunction of a particular organ but can also be because of a state of mind of the affected person who is not at ease with a particular state of its body. Death due to disease is called death by natural causes. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What type of disease does a fish have if he sits at the bottom of the tank? Q. I have a 45 gallon aquarium with three freshwater parrot ciclids. For the past week, the largest of the tree sits at the bottom and waves his fins normally as if s/he was swimming. The fish's skin looks normal. He is eating normally and is not behaving any differently than before other than the sitting at the bottom of the tank. When I go to feed them, he swims normally like all of the other fish. About 6 weeks ago, we successfully treated hole in the head disease with this same fish. The water conditions are clean with the temp between 77 and 79 degrees. Anyone have any thoughts on the disease process thaty may be going on here? I appreciate your thoughts in advance! Asked by niupt2k - Fri Apr 13 12:56:29 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Seems like your fish is suffering from Swim Bladder. Swim or air bladder problems sometimes occur in freshwater fish. I have personally seen this is fancy goldfish such as Orandas, Ryunkins, and Shubunkins and also parrot fish. When the bladder is effected, the fish will experience equilibrium problems. Sometimes, the problem is not the bladder but other problems which directly affect the bladder. Diseased and inflamed internal organs, improper water conditions or nutrition, and wounds received from fighting with another fish can also effect the equilibrium of the fish. Constipation is also known to affect a fish's swimming ability! Symptoms: The fish has problems swimming correctly. They may appear to be standing on their head, or… [cont.] Answered by Mantra - Fri Apr 13 15:03:44 2007 What skin disease similar to vitiligo causes lightening of skin, but not total loss of pigment? Q. We just found a tick on my dog (golden retriever) and it probably was there since sunday, april 1st. I am concerned that she received Lyme Disease. I would like to know how long it takes for the symptoms of the disease to appear? Asked by iwanabeurromeo91 - Wed Apr 4 21:06:17 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. The early signs of Lyme disease in dogs are supposed to be loss of appetite, fever and lethargy. Lameness may occur at the same time or may occur later. In some dogs, enlargement of the lymph nodes (usually generalized enlargement) occurs. In dogs, skin signs, heart disease, kidney problems and neurologic signs are reported to be rare. Symptoms of Lyme disease are usually delayed for several months but start to occur about 2 months after exposure and should show up by 5 to 6 months after a dog or cat is bitten by a tick carrying the bacteria (Borrelia burgdorferi).
