Reiki (霊気, English pronunciation: /ˈreɪkiː/) is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies. Through the use of this technique, practitioners believe that they are transferring healing energy in the form of ki through the palms. There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. Within both Traditional and Westernised forms of Reiki, there are three forms of degrees, commonly referred to as the First, Second, and Master/Teacher degree. According to Reiki practitioners and Masters, at First Degree, a Reiki practitioner is able to heal himself and others, at Second Degree is able to heal others distantly (commonly called distant healing) with the use of specialised symbols, and at Master level (specifically Master/Teacher level) is able to teach and attune others to Reiki. A 2008 systematic review of randomised clinical trials concluded that "..the evidence is insufficient to suggest that reiki is an effective treatment.." for the conditions studied (depression, pain and anxiety, and others). GNU Free Documentation License Does Reiki really work and how does one find a reputable practitioner? Q. I'm in the Roseville/Royal Oak area of Michigan and I'm looking into Reiki, but don't want to try just anyone out of the book. Does it really work? What is a fair price for a session, and how long should a session be? Asked by mcscharlie - Tue Jul 25 23:06:17 2006 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. A session should cost approximately the same amount as a massage, whatever that is where you live. Around here it's $1/minute. A whole-body session should be 45-60 minutes. More than that and it's too much. You can do a whole body session energetically in less time, but a big part of the session is the relaxation aspect. Ask other people who have had sessions who they went to and if they liked that person. Go to new age or pagan stores--they might have someone on staff or someone who comes in once a week and does sessions. If not, they will know someone personally to recommend. Those same stores will have little free holistic health magazines with Reiki people listed. Usually if someone is professional enough to pay for advertising,… [cont.] Answered by Gevera Bert - Thu Jul 27 07:55:53 2006 Is it bad to get a reiki attunement after smoking a joint? Q. Q. Alternate healing methods are known to work as quick first aid in times of difficulty and Reiki is one of the most powerful one. There are many who teach it in many places of Globe. Have you heard or tried it for first aid? Asked by Dr. Rekhaa Kale - Fri May 30 03:14:23 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think Reiki is an amazing compliment to any therapy, and in many cases can be applied as the sole treatment. However, if someone is bleeding, they need to have pressure applied, and the wound dealt with physically first. Reiki could then be applied to help keep them calm and lessen the pain. But just Reiki-ing a severe wound, or a break, or someone choking is NOT going to cut it. Now if someone just skinned their knee, or stubbed their toe, then certainly Reiki will be a great stand-alone treatment. But that doesn't mean you don't clean the cut and put a bandaid on it to keep it clean as soon as you can. I would NEVER say that Reiki can replace first Aid. They complement each other beautifully - and Reiki is always useful in… [cont.] Answered by prana_devi - Mon Jun 2 13:22:35 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Reiki"
