Germanic paganism refers to the theology and religious practices of the Germanic peoples of north-western Europe from the Iron Age up until their Christianization during the Mediaeval period. It has been described as being "a system of interlocking and closely interrelated religious worldviews and practices rather than as one indivisible religion" and as such consisted of "individual worshippers, family traditions and regional cults within a broadly consistent framework".

Germanic paganism took various different forms in each different area of the Germanic world. The best documented version was that of 10th and 11th century Norse paganism, although other information can be found from Anglo-Saxon and Continental Germanic sources. Scattered references are also found in the earliest writings of other Germanic peoples and Roman descriptions. The information can be supplemented with archaeological finds and remnants of pre-Christian beliefs in later folklore.

Being pagan in nature, Germanic paganism was polytheistic, with some underlying similarities to other Indo-European traditions. Many of the deities found in Germanic paganism appeared under similar names across the Germanic peoples, most notably the god known to the Germans as Wodan, to the Anglo-Saxons as Woden, and to the Norse as Odin, as well as the god known to the Germans as Donar, to the Anglo-Saxons as Þunor and to the Norse as Thor.

Neopagans: I'm interested and have a list of questions...?
Q. Ok, so I'm interested in becoming a Neopagan. The only problem is, I still need to do further research and I still have some firm beliefs that I want to keep while being a Neopagan. Please take the time to answer my questions: 1. Is it possible that while still believing in the God and Goddess, I can be somewhat Monotheistic in that I believe they are both parts of a whole (as in the One God or Supreme Spirit) that is of no gender? 2. Do Neopagans still respect others' beliefs? As in, they do not preach or convert like in Christianity? (From what I've heard they are very accepting)? 3. Do Neopagans do animal sacrifices? I thought they were against animal cruelty and were 'one' with nature? 4. Do you have to be vegetarian to be a… [cont.]

A. 1. Is it possible that while still believing in the God and Goddess, I can be somewhat Monotheistic in that I believe they are both parts of a whole (as in the One God or Supreme Spirit) that is of no gender? I'm sure that is fine. The idea of an Earth spirit is fine, like one whole spirit that is in everything and everyone, uniting all. 2. Do Neopagans still respect others' beliefs? As in, they do not preach or convert like in Christianity? (From what I've heard they are very accepting)? No, not really anything like Christianity. I've never heard of a neopagan trying to twist someones arm into believing. As for respect, I'd say that the majority of pagans have a slight distaste for Christianity especially since Christianity basically… [cont.]

Any pagans able to tell me of modern paganism?
Q. I have been religiously confused for a while. It seems that I may have some pagan beliefs, but im unsure of which religion to choose. I prefer European paganism, are there any pagan religions that you know of that seem interesting, and if so, tell me of their beliefs. Preferably Celtic, Germanic, or Norse paganism. the less belief in magick the better. I am looking for more authentic, Reconstructionist beliefs.

A. I personally believe in the old Norse gods. If I were you, I would study your ancestry and find out who they worshiped. This should give you a clear path. I hope this will help you narrow down what religious direction to take.
