Would it be a good idea if all three Abrahamic religions merged to form a new monotheistic religion?
Q. It's always bothered me. Christianity, Judaism and Islam have different traditions but they all believe in the same god. Even the Gnostics had the same god, just split into two. If you think about one way, the God we all think of is exactly the same as the God in Judaism. The messages may be slightly different, but they mean the same things. If you think about it one way, it could be like a Holy Trinity. There being three Abrahamic religions, it is obvious.

A. It sounds so simple, doesn't it? And I suppose, on the shallowest of levels, it is that simple. But if you dig a little, you'll see some major obstacles. There is one major question that must be answered: "Who is Jesus Christ?" These three groups will answer that question very differently.

If atheists are so keen on debunking religion, why is it only the Abrahamic faiths under scientific scrutiny?
Q. Atheists always boast arrogantly about debunking faith, but faith isn't all about God. There are other religions across the world. How come scientists aren't putting those other religions under the microscope? Why are only the Abrahamic religions being questioned?

A. Probably. I mean, every modern follower of Abrahamic religions adjusts it at least a little (in the case of the non-fundies, quite a lot) to create something sane for themselves - someone who believed in an entire holy book with no cherry-picking would be criminally insane by even, well, criminally insane standards. I imagine if a believer wanted to believe in a form of Islam with all the threats of hell and death removed, they could do so just as easily as a modern Christian omits the parts about killing disobedient children or hunting witches. I can't imagine it'd be a very stable belief, though - the feedback loop of being afraid of questioning one's beliefs is one of the most brilliant psychological devices in the Abrahamic… [cont.]

A. They are not. Here is more information about the origin of Mary worship: Siver C - the "only" requirement of being a Christian is not just to believe in Jesus and that he was God's only begotten Son. Since we call ourselves followers of Jesus, should we not also follow his teaching? When did he worship his mother or tell us that WE should. Although I'm sure he loved his mother, Jesus did not say that. In fact, when he was informed at one of his sermons that his mother and brothers were there to see him, Jesus said My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it. I must have missed the part where he bows before his mother.

Q. The Abrahamic faiths would be: Judasim, Islam, and Christianity. Scientology is pretty out there. I don't prescribe to the theory of alien ghosts making me feel bad because a mean alien blew up his buddies with hydrogen bombs at volcanoes and now their spirits can leave Earth. should have been "can't leave Earth". Top-Secret (Rose), look up the story of Xenu. This is how the belief of body thetans arose, and thetans are the linking belief structure of Scientologists.

A. I'd say Baha'i, but I think that is technically part of Islam, though most Muslims see it the same way many Christians see Mormons. Mormons are Christian, but they have the Book of Mormon which is not recognized by other Christians, so I guess you could say they are separate. If you consider Mormons to be distinct from other Christians, then they would be fourth because they currently outnumber members of Baha'i. If not, then I guess Baha'i is fourth. If you consider Baha'i to be part of Islam, then maybe there isn't a fourth. Personally, I consider Protestantism distinct from Christianity, and since Protestants outnumber Jews but do not outnumber Muslims, that would make Protestants third and Judaism fourth.

A. You can't often make sense of the bible. In effect, to a unbiased observer, it does not. The evidence for the bible being a collection of stories from men of a more primitive age with a less advanced understanding of virtually everything, from basic science to morality is painfully obvious to so many people now. The old testament, which is incorporated into the beliefs of all three of the major monotheistic belief systems, is so riddled with constant cruelty, slavery, inequity and genocide that it seems almost incomprehensible to an objective view of modern morality.

A. 'Abrahamic faiths' is a thoroughly misleading term. The similarities between Judaism and Christianity are at best superficial. I'm delighted to share a seder table (hanukiah lighting, hamentashen, etc.) with non-Jews who are genuinely interested in learning about our traditions. But when Christians persist in reinterpreting our holidays, I have to draw the line. You can't share when one group insists on taking it over.

Atheists, so how did Abrahamic religions really start?
Q. As an Atheist, It always baffles me how the Abrahamic religions came to be so popular after 2000 or so years. So let's say religion is false.
